Washington DC Cherry Blossom

26 Mar

Just back home from the spring break trip:) Lucky us! Due to the countrywide warm weather in the past weeks, we were able to view the astonishing cherry blossom in middle March, which usually happened in early April!!

Night at Bethesda

National Cathedral

Look how small our planet Earth is…

Old Post Office

Washington Monument was tilted by the earthquake last year, and the funny thing is that I need to tilt and crop my picture to make it look upright:)

The Capitol Hill is really located on a hill; the Supreme Court is really the most supreme one – highest on the hill; and the White House…is really as small as a house lol.

Here comes the cherry blossom…

My favorite one:

Miss LA

27 Feb

Last night’s Oscar (btw, no matter what other people comment, I myself really like the cutting of Angelina Jolie’s Versace gown and Gwyneth Paltrow’s non-traditional chic dress for the red carpet.) really made me miss Los Angeles more than ever. Suddenly all of the scenes happened in that area flashed back to life.

Share two pictures taken at Malibu:

Heading to A New Stage

19 Feb

I’ll never forget the day during the cold winter of middle December. I was standing on the edge of the big slope on Cornell campus at Ithaca, wondering when could I be granted the opportunity to study in such a beautiful environment, and I kept asking myself “where is my own path ahead”. Then five minutes later, I received a call from Chicago, Illinois. I knew this is it. I prepared myself to be as calm as I can before I picked up the phone, but soon I couldn’t stop tearing up when I heard the caller made it clear that she was a member of the Admissions Committee from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Yes, this is it. I cried out loud even over the phone (uh…sooooooo embarrassed, but hey, I’m just human:), especially after she told me additional information about the scholarship granted to me.

Yes, this was a very nice memory. Feels like God really opened a door for me. And even better, during the following two weeks since that, I consistently received admission calls from Dartmouth, UVA, and Cornell, each with scholarship. Don’t get me wrong, I said even better is just because these additional admissions really boosted my confidence, especially on the basis of being rejected by all of these schools last year. So ever since, I’ve been really lazy and relaxed. Let me give you some data facts: everyday I got up around 10:30 a.m., ate lunch – prepared by my super busy husband who’s an 1L student at Law School,  hung out with friends or enjoyed shopping, watched TV shows at night, and went to bed around 12:00 a.m.. Oh, bad me, everyday sticked to this schedule. ( hey, I’m just so human:().

OK, I realized how crazy these past two months were. I mean it. Now it’s time to change and time to equip myself for the next new stage. I need to push myself to finish this following list before March comes:

1. reach out for pre-MBA intership opportunities;

2. finish reading at least one book of those Vault Guides;

3. keep practicing my English and hone my speaking skills to be good enough for work;

4. stay proactive.

Go go go!

10 Things Nobody Warned Me about my Twenties

17 Feb

Reblogged from Doctor Quack:

When I turned twenty, I was under the impression that life was going to be a party for the next ten years. I was sorely mistaken. You see… I was warned about a couple things: my metabolism will decrease, I’ll get fatter, academic work will get harder, I’ll have to pay taxes; but there are a lot of things no one warned me about.

Read more… 3,119 more words

This is so true! I didn't realize these changes when I just turned 20. But now, four years later, I'm heading into Bschool study and really need to adjust myself to the new career-friends-family relationship. Sometimes this made me sad, depressed, or even manic, but every now and then I know this whole changing process is what we call "grow up".

Jason Wu for Target

26 Jan

Hey guys, the release of Jason Wu for Target is approaching, only 10 days left. Mark your calender! The whole line will be sold both in-store and online on February 5th. So if you don’t want to get up 4:00 am in the morning for a perfect position in the line, please hone your internet:) And btw, the price is absolutely tempting, from $19.99 to $59.99 for clothes and $19.99 to $49.99 for accessories.

Generally, the color palette skews nautical with plenty of navy and red, but there’s a bit of mustard (seen in Wu’s runway collections) and of course a healthy dose of black. For myself, I’m not a big fan of navy, due to my skin color. So my favorite outfits from the lookbook are:

I’m so prepared!(*^__^*)

Magic Skin Care Steps!!

24 Jan

Recommended by my girl friend, I tried this magic skin care method last night. And…OMG!!!

These are all I need during this skin care process (from left, French Green Clay, Aloe Vera Gel, Rose Hydrosol, Lavender Hydrosol, Jojoba Oil, and priced condensed paper masks):

First step: clean your face by applying makeup remover and cleanser.

Second step: pour out a small amount (as much as a usual bottle cap could hold) of french green clay into a small bowl. Pour same amount of water into the bowl. And blend them together to be slushy. Spread this DIY green clay mask on your face. Note: load more amount on the T area, and less on U area. Wash your face cleanly 5-10 minutes later, depending on the dry condition of the clay mask.

Third step: apply enough amount (until you feel very smooth) Jojoba Oil on your face, and massage your face for 10-20 minutes. Now the magic will happen. Through your massage, blackheads will come out. Yes, they come out! I swear this was my first time to see the disgusting blackheads that are black on one end and oily particle on the other end. Which means, by this way, the open and close comedones on your face will be cured.

Fourth step: after the deep clean of your face, now you can focus on moisturizing, whitening, lifting, or whatever. Last night I chose to antisepticize and cure my acnes. So I used Lavender Hydrosol. Here is the way to take the most of it. Pour 10ml lavender hydrosol into the small bowl you just used, and of course, washed. And blend it with 10ml pure water. This step is designed to avoid possible allergic reactions due to high purity of the flower hydrosol. Ok, back to the 20ml DIY toner. Now put one condensed paper mask into your toner. One minute later, after it completely absorbs the toner, take the mask out and lay it out on your face. In the meantime, pour enough aloe vera gel on your mask, as much as you feel comfortable.

Final step: 20 minutes later, take off the mask, and ENJOY YOURSELF!

Well, next time I will choose rose hydrosol which is famous for moisturizing, whitening, regulating internal secretion, and relieving tension.

Byakuyako by Keigo Higashino

24 Jan

Strongly recommend Byakuyako(白夜行) by Keigo Higashino([日]东野圭吾) to you guys!!! This is the very best detective story I’ve ever read. Actually it’s not a pure or an ordinary detective story that focuses on detecting processes, instead, this novel has much more profound impact on readers.

The book’s English name is “Into the White Night”, which would make sense after you read half of the book. The story starts with a horrible crime. A pawn shop owner in Osaka is murdered, but due to a lack of conclusive evidence the police lists the man’s death as a suicide. Detective Sasagaki, who investigated the case, can’t forget the dark eyes of the main suspect’s daughter Yukiho and the pawn shop owner’s son Ryouji. As time goes by, more mysterious deaths surround Yukiho & Ryouji. Detective Sasagaki still unable to let go of the pawn shop owner case discovers startling details about Yukiho and Ryouji…

This is the kind of book that you can tell the ending half way of your reading, but you still can’t put the book down, and choose to continue obsessed with the story. I especially love the way Keigo Higashino describe stories. He always uses the seemingly simple and plain words to  express the strongest feelings, which arouses unbelievable mental reactions inside me. And this is the only modern book that I don’t want to watch its movie version, because I believe that no actor or actress could portray the conflict in the mind as well as the figure in my imagination while reading the book.
